We tried something new February 6, 2010, organizing and co-hosting a Rail Jam on downtown Wausau’s City Square park. (also known as the 400 block.) With the support of Badger State Winter Games, Midwest Best Snowboarding, Granite Peak Ski Area and The River District nearly 100 athletes inspired an audience of hundreds with their tricks and energy.
It was fun to see drivers on Scott Street rubber-necking as the ramp went up and the rails were installed. Thankfully we had snow to start with, but the City of Wausau came through with three trucks of the white stuff and the Parks Crew from Granite Peak worked their magic over several hours of back breaking work. Robb Wruck created an awesome ramp and the River District provided a light show. The event relied on the expert organization and judging by Midwest Best, who supplemented the prize cache that was awarded. Everyone went home with a prize and hopefully great memories and aspirations for an even better event next year. Congratulations to all the winners!
